Arriving at any world-renowned site can be fraught with frustrations – hordes of people, many of whom seem inexplicably to be grumpy, queues, paperwork, barked instructions. It can all, even briefly, make you wonder why you bothered, or at least make you wish you’d come about 20 years earlier.
